Religious Life

Religious life at King David Primary School is shaped by its Jewish ethos and close links with the local Jewish community through its Foundation, the Birmingham Hebrew Congregation at Singers Hill synagogue.

The school places importance on Jewish learning, prayer, Hebrew, and the celebration of festivals and traditions throughout the year. The school provides kosher meals for all pupils. Alongside classroom learning, pupils experience a school environment where values such as respect, kindness, responsibility, and community are emphasised in daily life. The school’s stated aim is to provide both secular and religious education in a happy and caring Jewish atmosphere, while welcoming families of all faiths and none.

This combination of Jewish religious identity, inclusive community life, and broad primary education gives the school a distinctive character within Birmingham. Its religious life is not only seen in formal teaching, but also in the everyday culture of the school and its sense of belonging, tradition, and shared values.

School assemblies cover the meaning of festivals as they happen through the year and important themes in both Judaism and British values of:

·         Democracy: A culture built on freedom and equality, where citizens have a voice to influence decision-making.

·         The Rule of Law: An understanding that laws protect citizens and are essential for everyone's safety and well-being.

·         Individual Liberty: The freedom to believe, act, and express oneself within the boundaries of the law.

·         Mutual Respect: Treating all individuals with dignity and fairness, regardless of differences.

·         Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs: Respecting diverse cultural traditions and ensuring communities are free from discrimination and hate
